Topic: Change tempo of MIDI file

Hello Everyone,

I'm Rob from Sydney, Australia, where it's always cool, just not in summer.

I'm using StaffPad as my notation software. http://www.staffpad.net/

I have written a piece in 80 bpm, and saved it as a midi file. When I load it into Pianoteq Stage 5, it plays it at 120 bpm, and even if I change the tempo, nothing happens.

Any thoughts on how to get it to play at 80 bpm?

Cheers

Rob

Re: Change tempo of MIDI file

Hi Rob,

After you load your midi file into Pianoteq there is a pianoroll type representation of your file just below the menu bar. Just to the right of this is a string showing the current position within the midi file and the current playback speed. Click on this string and you will see a drop down menu allowing you to select the playback speed.

Re: Change tempo of MIDI file

Hi John,

Thank you very much for this. It now works like a beauty. I'm loving this program. Now my music sounds like the real thing.

Cheers

Re: Change tempo of MIDI file

I'd expect that if you explicitly specify a tempo for the piece in the score-writing program the exported MIDI file will play at that bpm by default at 1.0x speed in the Ptq MIDI player. (I use MuseScore; there it's Insert text -> Tempo -> choose one of Adagio, Largo etc and manually adjust bpm.)

3/2 = 5
