Topic: Stand for VPC-1

Hi guys

My 20 year old Korg digital Piano which I've been using with Pianoteq has just been killed by an incident with a cat and a cup of tea. I've been thinking about getting a VPC-1 for a while now, but this incident has kind of forced my hand! As such, I'll probably order one tomorrow, but I'll need a stand to go with it and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? I won't be taking it anywhere, so a strong/permanent solution is preferable.

I've seen this one which looks OK: http://www.dv247.com/keyboards-and-midi...k--207722; I'd prefer something like this rather than the scissor-action ones that look like ironing boards!

I won't say money is no object, but I'd rather invest more in something that's going to be strong and suitable for the task.

Cheers
Nick

Yes, K&M!

Their stuff is built to last, and very sturdy. I have a Spider Pro myself, couldn't be happier with it.

This looks more stable than the one you linked to.

I've been using this very stand (K&M 18953) since I got the VPC-1 and can confirm it has proven quite stable. (As opposed to a scissor-action one I had been using with an older, much lighter digital piano.)

Best,
Daniel

I've been using this one too with my VPC1.
It won't move an inch while playing, for sure. Rock solid.

Beware of the extensions like laptop mount or sheet music support though, the laptop mount cannot be put in a comfortable position with the VPC1 because its back is very tall for a keyboard. The sheet music stand is just bad imho (cannot be centered on the piano, plus it swivels on itself all the time.)

Edit: i was in fact talking about the 18953 evildragon linked to, the link the op pointed to is currently dead.

Re: Stand for VPC-1

If you're handy, the best and cheapest stand is the folding metal saw horse from Lowes.  Extremely sturdy and very quick to set up and take down.  Light to carry.  The legs have to be shortened bay about 2" to 4" and aluminium angle arms added to each end.

Another version is the
http://www.harborfreight.com/foldable-a...69059.html

Costs more. Heavier, harder to set up and carry.  Easier to shorten the legs, legs can also be extended to allow for playing while standing.   Legs only need to be shortened about 1 " and this can be accomplished by drilling a single hole in each of the four adjustable legs.   A strong stand but actually not as strong as the one mentioned above and about 3x's heavier.  Again aluminium angel arms must be added to each end to support the piano.

I have the Harbor Freight one set up as a more or less permanent stand in my living room and use the Lowes one for travel.  There's more leg room under the one from Harbor Freight.

I have made each of these.  If anyone is actually interrested I can provide detailed photos on exactly how to go about modifying these to work very well with digital pianos.

Re: Stand for VPC-1

I use a König & Meyer 18953-000-55 (http://produkte.k-m.de/en/product?info=310), rock solid and perfect to play sit on a bench, I have chosen it because it seems durable and well manufactured, I have purchased from a Spanish seller on Amazon.de at a much lower price compared to most on line and local stores.

I advice against the 18950 which is too high in my opinion

Re: Stand for VPC-1

Four legged table style that others have linked is great. Anything less is going to be wobbly and get in the way of getting the most out of your beautiful new piano. I've had this one for 10 years and it's rock solid:

But the add-ons for a second keyboard are not worth the bother (they're as flimsy as the base is solid) and the extra beams for them get in your way sometimes so this single keyboard one might be better:

Of course you could always make something like that for a fraction of the cost. (I got mine included with a piano. I would not buy it; just go to your local timber/hardware store, buy the bits and build one.)

Re: Stand for VPC-1

Here's my simple yet sturdy DIY solution. It pretty much mimics the furniture style stands that come with many digital pianos. I bought three boards of solid pine and sawed them to size. I then used some black interior paint to give them a nice matching appearance. Turns out the VPC1 rests perfectly on two boards 400 mm wide set exactly 1380 mm apart. Since this is no lightweight piano controller, I decided to use the thicker 28 mm boards available at the local hardware store for vertical support. One 1380 x 200 x 18 mm beam provides plenty of lateral rigidity and also prevents the pedal unit from wandering around.

To attach the VPC1 to the stand I removed the four rubber pads on the bottom and replaced them with suitable corner steel brackets. I screwed the brackets to the side boards and then put the existing screws back on to keep the VPC1 firmly in place.

Hope this helps. (All dimensions in the drawing are in mm. The height of the stand, 640 mm, puts the white key surface at roughly 730 mm from the ground.)

KS-G8 B and Jupiter 80 stands by Roland are used by Ravenscroft piano makers, Michael an Andrew Spreeman to support their modified VPC1's.
