Topic: gamelan gender wayang

I'd like to be able to perform some gender wayang music on my keyboard/laptop, and am looking for a relatively simple sound source. I realize there are some (very large) gamelan instrument sample libraries available for purchase, but I'm wondering whether anyone has created physical models of Balinese or Javanese metallophones and gongs. I need two pentatonic-tuned metallophone voices, slightly detuned relative to each other, to split on my keyboard to play in the wayang-style, which is essentially a Balinese 2-part invention.

I love using Pianoteq as my primary instrument, and am wondering whether any of you know of something similar for gamelan instruments? Could the PT xylophone be modified into Balinese/Javanese tunings?

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Tim

Hi Tim

I don't know if you have seen those, both receive MIDI (physical and virtual) and can play midi files. The tuning is adjustable.....

P.S. there's a Windows version too on request.

Re: gamelan gender wayang

Hi Otmar,
Many thanks! This looks wonderful. As a performance tool, it looks like it is designed as a stand-alone program. Is there any plan to add a version that can operate as a virtual instrument (e.g., AU, VST) that would work along with Pianoteq and other software instruments inside MainStage, Logic Pro, etc.?

Again, many thanks!

Best regards,
Tim

Hi Tim

Not for now, maybe one day in the future. Meanwhile just send your midi track through the IAC-driver (Audio-Midi-Setup) to Midi Gender. Maybe you could route the audio back to your DAW by soundflower (virtual audio port), but this is not tested.
