Topic: Sooooo......Fazioli.......

I know it's been said many times before, but you guys should contact Fazioli and ask them to give you a chance to model the 308. I got to play one a while back, and Chopin's Etude Op 10 No 4 just doesn't sound as good on anything else hahaha.

Something else I've been wondering, do you need permission from the piano manufactuerer to model their piano? I know you would to consider it being official, but what about unofficially?

Why would Modartt want to do this unofficially?

They don't need permission to do it unofficially, but they can't call it a Fazioli. They would have to call it something like F5, like the D5 which is unofficial. And in the marketing blurb they can only say that it's based on a Fazioli, and not that they modelled a Fazioli.

I really hope that they do make a Fazioli! I would much prefer that over a Bosendorfer which has been done so many times! The only software Fazioli pianos I know of are Ivory (very good), imperfect samples (ranges from OK to very good, depending on how much you spend on it) and supreme pianos (pretty bad to be honest).... So we could really do with another good Fazioli!

Re: Sooooo......Fazioli.......

I would love both models: Fazioli (F308 or F278 which is also very good and sometime preferred over the 308 because of a "lighter action") and Bosendorfer.
It is true that we have tons of sample libraries for the Imperial but I think it is a very hard piano to record and capture because of the timbre's change across the keyboard. I can hardly think of any library that satisfies me both in terms of sound quality and response to my touch. So it would be nice to have it as an instrument pack in PT 5.
Back to the topic however: if Modart somehow is able to convince Fazioli in making a virtual model of their piano, can I suggest as a starting point the awesome "Merlin" that they keep in their Fazioli Concert Hall?

Please don't let anecdotal evidence fool us into thinking that an F278 (~9 foot model) always has a lighter action than the F308 (10-1/2 feet long model).  Why not?  That's because Fazioli pianos have user-adjustable key-weight actions that rely on the positioning of balanced but repelling permanent magnets, adjustable in just a few minutes, that are able to offset the effects of gravity on the action.

The Magnetic Balanced Action system, invented by Evert Snel and Hans Velo in the Netherlands, permits variable touch according to the player's preference. The idea of the system is to use the force of magnets, whose position is adjustable, to regulate the touch-weight of the keys, rather than fixed weights. This system is now a factory option on Fazioli pianos.

The performer (or his/her personal technician) is able to make the keyboard feel as "light" or as "heavy" as the pianist desires.

I have seen this action change ... "in action" at the 2009 Winter NAMM Fazioli exhibit room in Anaheim, California, USA, with unbelievable results.  Restated, had I not tried it and felt the wondrous difference in touch with under own fingers (that one instrument felt like two or three completely different pianos), I would never have believed such a feat is possible.

Cheers,

Joe

I agree. Thanks for pointing out.

Re: Sooooo......Fazioli.......

I just remembered something that might prevent Moddart for getting licencing from Fazioli... I was speaking to one of the sound engineers who created the Bluthner Digital Model One through email. I said that I'd love it if he was able to sample a Fazioli like he did the Bluthner. He said that he approached Fazioli about sampling one of their pianos but said that they told him flat out no. They wouldn't even listen to him. They said that they didn't want to licence a software Fazioli. Bluthner did though, hence the BDMO.

Maybe Moddart will have the same problem. It would be interesting to know if Moddart have ever approached Fazioli about licencing.

It would be intresting to know: does Imperfect Samples have a license...) They often use the name "Fazioli" in their descriptions. Synthogy just wrote "Italian Grand" and try no to mention - what was the source, though everyone knows.
Just for me there is no difference: if it is "Fazioli" or "F10", only sound is important. If it is as good as Bluthner, no matter, how it is written

Re: Sooooo......Fazioli.......

I can't see "authorised by Fazioli"  or "officially Fazioli" anywhere on the website so I'm guessing that they don't. There's nothing stopping Moddart from creating the Fazioli, they just won't be able to have the "authorised by Fazioli" slogan like they do with the Bluthner.

Re: Sooooo......Fazioli.......

They should do a kickstarter-esk thing to fund and/or test demand
