Topic: Note-on velocity curve dullness?

When I play Pianoteq 5 Stage using the "normal" (straight) velocity curve the sound, especially around A3-A5, is very dull and muffled.  In fact it is useless regardless of whether I'm playing D4, K2 or the Bluethner.

I am aware that this straight line "curve" is the one to select when using a keyboard with selectable velocity curves like the VPC-1.

However I cannot understand why with any midi keyboard (not a VPC-1)  the sound using the straight line is muffled.   Forgetting PT keyboard calibration for now, if I manually move the left end of the graph line up from ppp to pp the muffled sound is immediately gone.

Could it be that this is by Modart intent,  to ensure that everyone calibrates their keyboard?

You might not be reaching velocities of 127 then?

Hard work and guts!

Re: Note-on velocity curve dullness?

It is the matter of taste. Right now I actually prefer dullness - in gives me a more neutral and controllable tone, I set the curve to be more compressed on the low to middle velocities and just slightly enhance the high ones.

PT reports 0 to 127 as I play softest to loudest note.

I like mellow but I don't like a sound as if my head is in a pillow

Why does PT not indicate which velocity curve is in use?  When I open the velocity selection page there is no highlight to indicate which standard or custom velocity curve is in use.
