Topic: Occasional dull tone

When my Pianoteq 5.1.1 Stage is playing as it should I am in heaven with its sound.   Occasionally like today when I start it using the same modified preset,  the sound from any piano including the lovely "Bluethner One" the sound is very dull.   Restarting the computer does not fix the problem.

I'm not yet blaming Pianoteq for the problem but so far I have not been able to isolate it.

Lenovo X201t laptop,  i7 processor, 8 GB,  Echo Indigo x10 sound card using its own ASIO2 driver and usb connected, Windows 7 Pro 64bit,  no other programs running.  48kHz 256 sample buffer.
Echo indigo card output to Behringer mixer then to Alesis 100W reference amp to JBL Control speakers.  Keyboard in use is Yamaha Tyros 5/76.

When the problem occurs I can immediately with one Tyros button switch to its sampled Grand Piano using the same mixer amp and speakers and the sound is bright as expected.  Switching back to Pianoteq the muffled sound returns.

I usually then give up playing Pianoteq and later perhaps next day find that Pianoteq has returned to its former glorious sound.

Please can someone help?

Ian

Re: Occasional dull tone

Obvousily the problem is somewhere within the computer section. Is there a way to change the voice within the computer.  For example loading in another Pianoteq voice or even reloading the same one.

Re: Occasional dull tone

Happens with all presets and all voices.   I'll reinstall Pianoteq.

Re: Occasional dull tone

Sounds like you might have accidentally MIDI learned some parameter and at some point that CC gets sent and changes your sound... Check out MIDI assignments in Options.

Yes that is possible in my attempts to get Cubase Light (failed) then Mixcraft 6 (okay) and the Tyros 5 working together.

thanks,

A re-install can't hurt.  More than likely, it will fix the problem.  Let us know the outcome.

Re: Occasional dull tone

Re-installed and all normal for now.   Gave me a chance to reset settings and lock them for all presets and voices.

Sounding better than ever especially the Bleuthner.   I'm so looking forward to getting a 128 velocity fully weighted keyboard.   I thought I had found my ideal with the Kawai VPC-1 but after this week having played a Kawai CA-65 with its Grand Feel action and Ivory Touch surface I am not happy with the grainy surface which is the same as the VPC-1.

In addition there are many reports of unsatisfied customers with Kawai digital keyboard quality issues  that I'm hoping that NAMM 2015 might bring new improved products.
