Tapping tempo without activating metronome?

I would like to use the "tap" button to set the correct timing for the effects in a live stage setup. Unfortunately, the tap button also automatically starts the metronome. The metronome can be lowered in volume, but I could not find any option to disable it completely. Is there any chance to tap the tempo without starting the metronome?
