Topic: Competition

Is it better than PT? Or worse?

Anyway, I am on the brink of jumping ship towards sampled pianos. There is just some dullness in the PT sound compared to samples. I know this has been discussed (fought) over a dozen times already, I don't really wanna start a new discussion. Just sayin.

Re: Competition

Nope, it is not better than Pianoteq. Tried it, wasn't thrilled.

Hard work and guts!

Re: Competition

Went and sprung for the Bosendorfer. Strictly as a curio, my persuasion is modeling. Hafta wait, for some human to get up and push the buttons. 12 hours, they say.

Re: Competition

I'm prefer more pianoteq.

However, It is another feeling when compare with pianoteq.
Sound of this VSTI is actual, warm, and natural.
Want that pianoteq develops much more in this side.

Re: Competition

Well... sampling seems good, development isn't, seems homebrew and gets in the sampling's way. Help essentially absent.

Re: Competition

Soundmagic ? It's a joke no ?

Re: Competition

It's geting there step by step.
Who kwen pianoteq since the early versions knows how much it improved.

I supose Modartt could try a hybrid approuch, like allow just some fraction of the sound to be sampled, like the fraction that carries warmness, sort as they did with hammer noises.

But this could make things too easy and defocus the atention from the perfectionist challenge of get full naturality by just modeling.
They need some challenge intusiasm to keep searching and perfecting modelling.

Re: Competition

weak sound, timbre bad compared to the various Ivory or true pianos, playability far from that of PT .... poor product, in my opinion

Re: Competition

I have loved for a long time, and supported pianoteq.

At next version, I expect beautiful tone color that surpass sampling sound source.

Re: Competition

At the very first I tried this was very impressed, but using it more than 10' it was a sobering experience: there were much rough and harsh overtones, resonance effects, I couldn't really get rid of by setting.

I tried it two times, some 1,5 years between the tries and the second time I couldn't notice much difference.

During the same time Pianoteq evolved a lot, after v4 with the Bluethner came the new v4.5 engine with the Upright at they brought real refinements. If this pace will be retained,  very soon we shall have the situation that nothing surpasses PTQ.

Maybe this Chinese product (and I say it with sympathy for his developer) will also evolve to this high level with potential as PTQ at some time in future, but it is still a newcomer.
