Topic: Downloading issues

I actually went thru Sweetwater  for my 1st install 2 days ago and they had to do a remote install because even in the purchasing vs trial I was having downloading issues. It seems the down loading was averaging around 50kbs then dropping down to around 7 kbs.My usual clock speed is around 34 mbs.Now as I type this I'm having the same issue on my laptop.I've used chrome,firefox.IE7 with no luck.I've also disabled my firewall briefly to no avail.I did send pt a email but thought I would post here as well.I'm reluctant now to purchase any future add ons.I also checked the forum history and their was somewhat related issues in 09 .My computers are new and up to snuff so to speak.Outside of this pt is performing well on my desktop. Also I appreciate the speedy responses from my previous posts.
Thank in advance

Re: Downloading issues

I wasn't around here for 2009, but my experience (from Australia) of downloads as such goes way back, and the usual case with bad downloads is a provider (do you call them IPs, ISPs?) having trouble. Possibly Googling the IP name along with 'trouble' might fetch up info along these lines.

Though from my location Modartt may have transitory problems, (and upon release of a major new model the samples may be pretty unlistenable, since the server's limping under the demand-load), transitory's the word, at the Modartt end. Like of a few seconds' duration, and certainly at present.

Re: Downloading issues

One thing that slows MY downloads is my anti-virus software.
With large files it examines each packet as it arrives and doesn't allow any more to arrive until it has cleared the last one.
This really degrades the speed for DVD images, e.g. Linux distributions, I probably suffer a 30 to 40% NET speed drop.
I have the speed while receiving, but the pauses are the problem.

There is probably a way to overlap the checking with the reception of the next packet, i.e. double buffering, in fact I don't understand why that isn't the default.

Avast free version.

Re: Downloading issues

I findly downloaded the 2nd install......to speed up the process I would pause the download every 10 or 15 seconds and then click on resume and this actually sped up the process.I discovered this out of just frustration.Anyway the complete download took about a half hour.Hopefully the add ons I might buy wont be as painful.
