Topic: Spelling : Blüthner or Bluethner ?

Hello,

Just curious :
In the Pianoteq GUI the name of this piano is spelled "Bluethner".
Whence comes this E?
Why not "Blüthner", which is the genuine name ?

Re: Spelling : Blüthner or Bluethner ?

"ue" is a substitute for "ü" when you can't write "ü" for whatever reason. It was done like this for international compatibility, I presume.

Hard work and guts!

Re: Spelling : Blüthner or Bluethner ?

Right. And Bösendorfer should also be written Boesendorfer, although Bosendorfer is somehow more prevalent. I'm guilty of using it myself.

Re: Spelling : Blüthner or Bluethner ?

OK.
So why historical piano D. Schöffstoss is not written Schoeffstoss ?

You're right. It should be...it's an historical mistake, I suppose.

Re: Spelling : Blüthner or Bluethner ?

I'm relieved to see that the graphic Blüthner on the Blüthner models is done correctly (which I'm guessing is how the name is printed on the actual piano). The spelling of menu items isn't about to make me lose sleep but I prefer to see words containing accents written as they are in their language of origin.  Schöffstoss, by the way, seems to get spelled "Schöffstoss" in the main menu and "Schoffstoss" in the submenu. Oh my!

By coincidence, here in Canada, we're having a similar but larger flap over the maple leaf on our new $20 bill. It's the leaf of a Norway maple, which is a non-native invasive species here. Somebody should be really embarrassed.

Yes, this is intentional because we noticed that some VST hosts bug when they receive unusual accents in the preset name (and apparently only there).

Re: Spelling : Blüthner or Bluethner ?

If it's a matter of accent, then why not "Bluthner", less disfiguring the original name than that "Bluethner" with its added "e" ?
(mais comme Doug ça ne m'empêchera pas de dormir...   )

Re: Spelling : Blüthner or Bluethner ?

It is a common usage among German people to put “ue” instead of “ü”, and both “Bluethner” and “Blüthner” are correct, whereas “Bluthner” would be a misspelling.

BTW, the funny thing regarding “Bösendorfer” is that it was initially written “Besendorfer” and not “Bösendorfer” nor “Boesendorfer”:
