Topic: plugging into my mac

I'm about to go and audition some keyboards for use with Pianoteq, and I thought the most sensible thing would be to not bother with the internal keyboard sounds but to plug the boards into my mac and see how they work with pianoteq. Now I don't want to make a fool of myself in the shop, so I'm asking, is this a straightforward process, or am I in danger of plugging in my usb and getting no sound at all? I'm pretty mac literate, but have zero midi experience. On my first outing I hope to try the Roland FP4, FP7, RD300GX, Korg SP170, Kawai MP5 and ES6. (I have a feeling the MP5 will be my favourite, but who knows. I can't afford the MP8, sadly).

Re: plugging into my mac

You shouldn't have any problems, in my experience if you plug in to  a Mac it will just work. Just a few points, obviously you will need a midi to USB cable and I would take an ordinary USB cable as well just in case you want to try a board that only has USB midi.

Secondly if you find Pianoteq isn't responding go to options at the top of the PTQ interface and make sure the midi to USB cable is selected in the devices tab.

Thanks BazC.

Once you've tested them, do say which one you like most Ben.

I will. Add to that list the Kawai CN33, which is a home DP with the new RH action which is supposed to be an improvement on the AHA 4 in the other Kawais....
