Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-707) needs no introduction — he was a Danish organist and composer of the Baroque era, whose works are typical of the North German organ school. Buxtehude's style of composition had a great influence on other composers, such as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. Buxtehude is considered one of the most important composers of the 17th century.
Buxtehude is known primarily for his organ compositions. He also composed excellent vocal and harpsichord pieces.
