Topic: The Algorithmic Piano - Kicking off new Youtube Channel

I decided to put my generative piano pieces going forward in a separate youtube channel since my other channel was/is very AI centric.

Shigeru Kawai - Ryuyo Preset

Enjoy!

I like the crescendo and diminuendo,  and the changing rhythm in some places,   and the ”running notes" up and down”.  Good ending.
A bit different from the other pieces.   Always good background pictures.
Thanks for sharing

Best wishes,

Stig

Just subscribed to your channel!

I have a similar interest in generative piano. Mostly to generate background music while I work. I'd rather than listen to non-generative music with my full attention.

Can you share which tools you are using?    I'm experimenting with using python to generate a midi file and then play it through Pianoteq.  I haven't tried to generate anything live yet.

Thanks for subscribing!  Currently I have used a platform called Sonic Pi which is more or less an IDE dedicated for generating music with library extensions to the Ruby programming language. I'm not a Ruby dev but it's pretty easy syntax. Sonic Pi also uses SuperCollider I think for some transport things and sound synth. I don't do any sound synth as I used it mostly as shortcuts with Midi, scales and note manipulations and generate the Midi and get that routed to Reaper (DAW) where I use VSTs (Pianoteq for example). I also use loopbe to route the Midi on Windows. Other OSes (Mac and Linux) might have better Midi routing built in.

Sonic Pi isn't perfect and at times I had to hack some things to get the Midi scheduled correctly when combined with multiple threads. But overall it does a decent job with scheduling to the timebase (beats).

A very intriguing piece, it's scary to hear where the AI generation has come from.

Hi Carmelo, thank you for your comments! This actually isn't AI. But it is from computers so at some level it might not matter but for me the distinction is important

AI is trained on real music from real people and therefore is based on those past inventions from composer and performers. What I have is not trained on any existing music but is result of software I wrote with patterns and algorithms and therefore is only based on my interpretation of music styles. .

In my view AI produces much more believable music than what my system can make, but I still like what I have because it's different, I'm more directly controlling it  and also driving Pianoteq via Midi. That said I like AI music too, but just wanted to point out a difference.
