Topic: MIDI NRPN / SysEx support?

Just stumbled across OrganTec and can't wait to try it hooked up to the Allen MDS65 console to more fully compare with my old Hauptwerk ... so far it seems very impressive!
I've been trying to get a jump start on the MIDI mappings but there doesn't seem to be any way of manually specifying NRPN or SysEx messages for stop controls:
are these supported (presumably only by direct capture)?

Re: MIDI NRPN / SysEx support?

So MIDI learn didn't catch it?

If not try the action mapping window and see if it lists NRPN events correctly.  If it doesn't, it's unlikely that OTQ currently supports it.  I suspect the devs would be willing to add that feature, but I have absolutely no idea how difficult that would be or how long a wait time that would involve.

There might also be a hardware or software solution that could translate an NRPN message into a standard RPN/CC event or value, but I haven't had much experience "translating" MIDI events.  Some DAWs support automated MIDI editing, for example, which might enable the functionality you're looking for if OTQ doesn't have it built in right now.

Without an MDS65, I can't really do more testing of that, unfortunately.  (I don't think any of my MIDI devices have NRPN signals that are transmitted through the line as opposed to just being internal.)

Re: MIDI NRPN / SysEx support?

Not had a chance to try hooking up to the console yet, but having the Hauptwerk mappings I was hoping to be able to prep more ... the thought of using Midi-Ox or similar to handle the translations had occurred.
The Allen midi implementation is rather old and crusty (think 1.0 data rates) ... as is the version of osx i have to work with ... this could become an expensive upgrade but if I can combine organteq with some bells in pianoteq (carillon or tubular bells being a really nice piece of icing for occasional use) I might be able to justify some serious outlay.

Re: MIDI NRPN / SysEx support?

That makes more sense.  In the long term, you should be able to get it working (in theory), because if Hauptwerk reads the MIDI messages, than OTQ *should* see them or have some ability to have them passed along.  MIDI-Ox or a similar SysEx tool should work quite well (if you can get it or an alternative up and running and handle the routing correctly), but I'd hope that OTQ could handle the interactions out of the box.  I'm just not savvy enough with SysEx/NRPN to know for sure.

Re: MIDI NRPN / SysEx support?

So the good news is that Organteq sounds great through the MDS65 speaker system, but it doesn't even recognise the NRPN messages being transmitted by the console.

Tried asking support about it but in the meantime looking into 3rd parti midi message mapping

Re: MIDI NRPN / SysEx support?

of course, just to complicate things the console only seems to send the NRPN MSB values (i.e. CC99nrpnmsb, CC98nrpnlsb, CC6value instead of CC99nrpnmsb, CC98nrpmlsb, CC6valuemsb, CC38valuelsb) but mididash looks to be viable by scripting persistance between CC messages ... might be afew days before I can test in anger
