Topic: Shortcuts to select different instruments?

Hello,

I'm a new user of Pianoteq.

I've been searching the posts here for advice of gig-oriented setups. I found this post here, but I think that it's oriented towards piano insruments
https://forum.modartt.com/viewtopic.php?id=10945

I'm an amateur gigging musician. I use a Yamaha P-125, and a WInd10 PC, and am delighted that the keyboard can send MIDI to the PC, and has the built-in USB audio interface to play the selected instrument on the keyboard.

I play in two bands, a jazz combo where I only need an AP instrument for the entire gig, and a pop/rock band where I need extra EP, organ and string sounds. For the pop band, I sometimes need to switch between instruments during the same same song. For example a string intro, later switching between EP and organ instruments. When only using the P-125's internal sounds, I can easily switch sounds using its instrument buttons. When using Pianoteq, can I use shortcuts to select different AP or EP sounds instruments? If I install Organteq, can I do something similar to switch between the piano and organ instruments? And how can I switch to string sounds?

I have to admit my ignorance of MIDI. Can I use key presets to select Pianoteq/Organteq instruments using MIDI commands?

Many thanks.

Re: Shortcuts to select different instruments?

My way to achieve this is to use several tracks on a DAW, each one with a specific instrument (Pianoteq or another plug-in for strings sounds), selecting the track selects the appropriate instrument. No need to record or play anything, and any VST host would do the trick too, like Nanohost https://www.tone2.com/nanohost.html Just my 2 cents.

Many thanks Luc,

I managed to use Cakewalk/BandLab as a VST host.
However, it's awkward to change the instrument on the fly while playing a song.
Can this be done from the keyboard, by pre-assigning keys to MIDI?
I need to look into this further

Normally, if you select one track after another by clicking on the up/down arrows, it's very fast... I don't know how to make it even faster !

You can assign these MIDI commands to the P-125's controls. Just go to the "Options" window and click on the "MIDI" tab on the right side of the screen. There, you will have many possibilities to create MIDI assignments for various commands, including choosing presets for your favorite instruments.

For more detailed information on how to proceed, I recommend that you read the Pianoteq manual.

yes this is the best and more versatile way for gigging , you can virtually map any pianoteq parameter on the fly and switch instruments with assignable CC commands . You can ever find pedal boards specially made to issue these controls by foot , which is sometimes necessary in some performances when you have to switch from one presets to the next . You can also create morphed instruments  to manage a smooth transition from one preset to the next   using an expression pedal mapped to the morphing % parameter .
