Topic: Yamaha YC5 ringing.

Firs post, so sorry if this is a duplicate of other posts.
Ive got the latest version of Pianoteq 8 and brought the YC5 pack, as I love the YC piano's in my Yamaha Synths.

As great as it sounds, I hear a high-pitched metallic ringing sound after that main body of the note has dropped.
I was using Stage, but then upgraded to the Standard and its still there.

Is this normal? It's not really a big deal, but the other pianos dont do this.

This is on my M1 MacBook Pro with latest version of Sonoma.

Thanks of any replies.

Yes I also hear some ringing notes on the YC5. I really think it's characteristic of this piano. And I also like it.

Same ringing tone on the Steinway B, but more annoying to me on this one.
Could you try it and give us your impressions?

Re: Yamaha YC5 ringing.

Every piano, real ones as well as PT, have it.  It's sympathetic vibrations.  I don't hear it as a defect.

Sure but on the Steinway B and the YC5 some lower notes have a somehow twangy sound. It is not my cup of tea even if it corresponds to the original character of these pianos.
Not sure if this is what Davebass5 speaks in his post.

Have you tried any editing of the piano sound? EQ changes and moving microphone positions (or switching to binaural mode) can make a big difference to the overall sound. Also, try bringing down the sympathetic resonance and duplex scale sliders in the Design section and see if that removes the 'ringing'.

Also, changing the sampling rate affects the tone of the piano models as well.

dude!!! i hear the same thing!!!

painoteq please remove the ringing

the YC5 didnt have this in the past.  even if authentic please give a clear option to remove as it unplayable in this form

yes on real piano's they ring (although top pianists go out of their way to find pianos where the ringing is at a minimum for good reason) but it's not the same, on pianoteq the sound is much more annoying.

Re: Yamaha YC5 ringing.

I will be honest, this sounds more as a natural ringing, and not a distortion riningg like from verycheap pianos.

I notice if I play notes after the damper break point, like FF, alone. I wouldn't notice if I wasn't looking for it. We tend to follow others in perception, like a psychology factor somehow.

Maybe it wasn't as present in older versions, but it could be wrong before and was changed to better represent the original model.

Anyway it may be wise to record two mp3, one with the older version and other with the new, to show Modartt what exactly you don't like.

Was there an update to the YC5 recently as it's become annoyingly ringy.

please can you reduce the amount of ringing to the YC5 it now sounds unnatural.

may i also suggest just having a button on pianteq GUI to take out ringing in general, even if this is not authentic to the piano.

its my main complaint on pianteq, the models are very ringy.

Dear theinvisibleman, please contact the support and provide information on how to reproduce the ringing you mention: which preset, which note, midi file and audio file illustrating the ringing.

Note that sympathetic resonance is something natural, that you can control via the sympathetic resonance sliders (Standard and PRO versions).
