Topic: Can't get Pianoteq sounds to play on FP-90X speakers

Hi all, and happy early new year!

I have a new FP-90X and the demo version of Pianoteq.

I can set up Bluetooth MIDI so that Pianoteq on my iPhone (16Pro) receives info from the keyboard, but no matter what I do, I can't get the Pianoteq sounds to come out of my keyboard's speakers.

I've turned local control off...
I've even plugged in a USB C (for iPhone) to USB A (for keyboard) cable

But the only sounds coming out of the keyboard are the keyboard's own.

Also: if I disable Bluetooth, no MIDI data is going through the cable from the keyboard to Pianoteq (I thought that would work).

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks so much!

I might be wrong (since I don't have a recent Roland keyboard) but IIRC I don't think they can act as a wireless or USB audio interface (what you need to get the audio out from their speakers). If I am wrong, in the Pianoteq Options->Device menu you should find the Roland FP90X in the list of Audio Output and selecting that should make it work. If you don't find it, Roland doesn't have such a feature. Some Yamaha keyboards have that.

An alternative, if your Roland has line-in, would be to purchase an USB-to-line-out adapter for your iPhone and connect an audio cable instead.

Where do I find a list of all posts I upvoted? :(

It should work. There’s some talk about it here.

For some reason, it’s difficult to find clear and precise directions.

If it were me (I have neither an FP-90X nor an iPhone), I would start with the USB connection and first be sure Pianoteq on the iPhone is receiving the MIDI. Then look in Options | Devices within Pianoteq and see where the output is directed; it should be something that designates the FP-90X. Not having an iPad, I can’t tell you if there is something you have to do in the iPad to tell it to make the FP-90X available; if you can’t find it in Pianoteq, I would look for something in iPad settings.

I don't have an FP-90x, but you don't mention following steps described in the manual.  What documentation are you using to determine the proper steps?

I would forget about using Bluetooth midi while trying to get the audio thing to work, it's just one more variable that can screw things up.  And get midi working through a USB cable before you try to do audio over the cable.

You should be connecting a USB cable to the square 'USB Computer' port on the FP-90x, not to a USB-A port.  As described in this article:
https://support.roland.com/hc/en-us/art...a-Computer. (Note that this article is for FP-90, not FP-90x, so includes no information specific to the USB audio interface.  But principle is the same, connect USB on keyboard to the square USB port, not to the USB-A port. Audio and midi will share the USB cable simultaneously.)

I'm curious, have you gotten the keyboard to feed midi to the computer using a USB cable, or have you been sending midi so far using only Bluetooth?  The only cable-based midi out you'll get from the FP-90x will be from the square USB port.

Hi there and Happy New Year!

Well, that's it I'm sure... I was plugging into the USB A memory port, not the USB-B midi port (smh) - I'll run out and get a USB C to USB B cable and try again later, then report back.

Thanks

Thanks so much for the help - somehow, after pouring through the FP-90X manual (I'm a geek), I missed the fact that the MIDI USB port was not the same as the memory USB port. I picked up a cable today and everything works perfectly - with the new cable, MIDI goes to my iPhone and the sound comes right back to the keyboard. Thanks again, all!
