Topic: Clicks, popping problems? Do latency monitor
Hey,
Over the last month, I've been fighting with some burping in my speakers/headphones produced when playing live with Pianoteq, Kontakt's Noire, or DAW etc. Everywhere. And I think this might help people who try to set small buffer sizes for ASIO, WASAPI, or whatever and who use laptops or PCs (probably not Macs).
Latency mon will help you diagnose your problems.
The main culprit is low-energy modes in laptops/PC with Windows systems that are set by default.
So for example, if you run latency mon you can get something like this:
Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
I had mainly issues with HDAudBus.sys. After setting the highest performance and turning off core parking, these issues are gone.
Now I set my DAC to buffer even with numbers like 64, and I have no issues. I recommend reading this reddit thread if, after setting low buffers, you have problems with clicking, burping, etc.
