Topic: Ana Maria (Pianoteq)

here's a lovely tune by Wayne Shorter "Ana Maria".  i really love the chord progression in this one.  it goes all over the place but it's so smooth you don't even notice!

Ana Maria

Ah… here we have a real flow all the way! Felt like I was flying high up a little up and down in a light wind... Fantastic work indeed - and the low notes in the bass!!!!! Could/might have been a little stronger, but love it. I like your interpretation on this piece.

Playing or interpreting... You, budo, give the music meaning. You give the music / bring the music piece to life. That is interpreting. When you understand what you play, you make me understand it too.
As someone said:  ”There are no rules. You make them when it comes to interpreting. The sheet is your canvas. Paint over it! ”
Well budo, that’s interpreting, not just playing. And you are an expert, because it also comes from what you put in the score that is not written in the score, so, I always love to listen to how you give the music meaning - ”budo interpretation” Love it!

And I almost forgot - the ending! Wonderful. And I feel now this time that this new way of ending, was made by you, as you being much more  conscious about how to choose to end the piece!
Really nice - and I thought it was the end, and then came a chord at the end!
Wonderful surprise

Thank you budo!!

All the best,

Stig

thank you so much for your detailed comments!  it makes me so happy to think that my playing gives you a way to understand the piece better.  to be honest, his music is quite the mystery to me and i certainly don't feel like i understand it!  there are many, maybe even all, of his lead sheets on deposit at the Library of Congress here in the US.  i really wish i could have a chance to see them.  he is one of my favorite jazz composers.

I am a fan of Milton Nascimento, and I got to know him through Wayne Shorter's album "Native Dancer." This magically enchanting album was the reason I became hooked on contemporary Brazilian music. I love the melody lines of "Ana Maria"; they are very sexy.

thank you for listening and for your comment.  yes, i love that album too.  Herbie's playing is awesome on it.  i also like the tune "Beauty and the Beast" from that album and recorded it too a while back
