Topic: Gentle background music

My first attempt at some (rudimentary, simple) produced background music. Donal Oats is just a pseudonym.

Hi Steve,

So nice to have you back again. The music reminds me of your great strings- pieces before. As always, I love your chord progression and harmonies.
Here it feels like as I’m looking at some kind of film…pictures in my mind…like an intro to an even greater performance to begin…

Gentle background music - yes, as an intro to an interesting film. Thank you Steve! Well done!    Waiting for more in this genre.

And nice to hear Steingraeber, I used it too in my latest piece ”One day at a time” with Ptq 8 Pro. Here if you missed it.

Thank you very much, Stig. Music is a strong interest regardless of life's challenges.

Nice to read your posts and hear your music, as always.

Re: Gentle background music

Very nice, I really like the striking contrast between the deep noisy bass drone and the piano in the first section. The additions in the late part are fitting even if I like the first phase more. Well done!

Thanks. Those are interesting and helpful comments. Sometimes "less is more," and as simple as the piece is (just three parts/tracks), I may nonetheless have overproduced it, or perhaps I should have simplified the second half.

Re: Gentle background music

very lovely!  i really liked the progressions and the voicings.  it could be tune by Pat Metheny or Lyle Mays.  i kept waiting for a killer drum fill so the track would transform into a mega-arena rock anthem

Re: Gentle background music

Hey Stephan

I enjoyed your composition. This is probably not what you had in mind when scoring it, but when listening to it I pictured a scene somewhere in the Antarctic, with blue skies above and dark blue, still water with lots of icebergs and ice floes. Your use of 4th voicings on the piano gave it a nice overall "open" and "airy" feel, and the choice of D minor at the beginning suited it well.
