Topic: How do you play the audio signal from your laptop on your stage piano?

I'm looking for a stage piano that will let me play PIanoteq from my Microsoft Surface Laptop via USB through the speakers of the piano.  I want to keep it simple and do this with just a USB cable.  I've been advised by Roland on their RD 88 and Yamaha on their CK88 that those pianos can do USB audio, not just MIDI.  But when I tried to make it work at a local music store, I couldn't do it even with assistance from store employees. Can anyone explain in simple steps how to make this work?

Re: How do you play the audio signal from your laptop on your stage piano?

For the Roland you must install specific drivers (to download from their website), I suppose it's the same for the Yamaha, did you do that ?

Copy from the RD88 parameter guide:
19
SYSTEM Parameter
USB AUDIO
Parameter Value Explanation
Audio In Level 0–127 Adjusts the input level of USB audio.
Audio Out Level 0–127 Adjusts the output level of USB audio.
Audio Out Src MIX, INPUT
Specify “INPUT” if you want the USB
audio output to output only the audio
of the LINE/MIC input. If this is set to
“MIX,” the audio from both the RD-88
itself and from the LINE/MIC input is
output via USB audio.
Audio Thru OFF, ON
Specifies whether the input from USB
audio is sent through to USB audio
output (ON) or not sent through (OFF).
* If this is set to “ON,” take care that
an audio loop does not occur on
your PC (DAW)

Thanks for the reply, Luc.  Yes, I did download drivers for both the Roland and Yammie instruments.  Still no luck. Excuse my ignorance.  This is all new to me.  But where would I find these parameters?  Are they on the instrument, in some Pianoteq settings, or somewhere else, perhaps in Window Settings?

Well... both ! Without having any of those pianos at hand I can't reply, but of course in Pianoteq you should choose the corresponding setting: options > devices > audio output
