Topic: Anyone using Adsilent with Pianoteq?

At the moment I'm using Pianoteq at home with the silent system built into my Bechstein Concert 8.
The system is rather old, not well calibrated anymore, and has no dynamic pedal.

So I'm thinking of upgrading to Adsilent now.
But as I doubt that I will love its sounds more than I love my Pianoteq, I wonder how good they work together?
Especially with the velocity curves? I've never found the perfect setting for the old Kurzweil interface.

Thanks,
Martin

Re: Anyone using Adsilent with Pianoteq?

Hi Martin,

I have ADsilent installed in my Seiler piano. The sound is not so bad, however I use the midi output to control Pianoteq. This works great!
The headphone output of the ADsilent only when I not want to start the connected  (mini)PC (AV Linux)  with USB sound card.

That is what I'm thinking too, how I would use it. But the adsilent app isn't much helpful then, I suppose?
Did you build your own velocity curve, or is the output linear?

I only used the app for settings, chapter 6 in the manual. Tried a lot to adjust the velocity curve in Pianoteq, but at the end the "Normal Keyboard" was the best setting for me. I am very satisfied with the system, no problems so far.

By the way: I had the opportunity to play a Concert 8 at the Bechstein Centrum Frankfurt last year. Really a great instrument. I can only agree with him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIZnzUBjrlE.

I've tried it yesterday in a shop - and I think I'll do the upgrade. It can't replace Pianoteq, of course. But I liked the sound and the possible adjustments.
Do you use the app on Android? I've tried that - but the app didn't find any Blutooth devices. With iPadOS it was easy.
And have you tried Blutooth midi? I wonder how the latency is...

Thanks,
Martin

I use the Android App. (Switch adsilent off - start the app - switch adsilent on - tap on Bluetooth (Connection) choose adsilent and OK)
Unfortunately, USB midi is at the front. Don't use Bluetooth midi, the latency not quite good.

Hello,
I also have the adSilent installed on my upright. For me working quite good, with some issues when notes are repeated quickly. It depends on the keys. Not all the keys behave the same way and calibration does not solve every time.
Midi Bluetooth is okay for synth sounds with slow attack. Otherwise there is to much latency (around additional 6 ms) and jitter.

Re: Anyone using Adsilent with Pianoteq?

Yesterday, the technician was here and upgraded my old Genio system to Adsilent. So far, I'm very happy with it!
I can live well with the build-in sound, when there is not much time for practicing.

But just for fun, I took an old Iphone 6s and connected it via Bluetooth. As it still has a 3,5mm jack for headphones, no adapter was needed for audio.
To my surprise, Pianoteq 8 works absolutely flawless! And as the audio latency is extremely low, I didn't find that Bluetooth midi latency is a problem.

I'm not interested in performance values, I played my usual stress tests from my endless Raspi Pi 4 and NUC8 experiments - and wasn't able to produce glitches.
Very nice to have both options now.

Bluetooth with Android wasn't a problem too. When testing, I made the mistake to pair the devices. But this is Bluetooth LE, and must be connected in the App.
Anyway, my next smartphone will be an iPhone (after 12 years with Android).

Thanks for your replies,
Martin

Re: Anyone using Adsilent with Pianoteq?

Hi,

Just to let you know that a new adSilent version 2 has been released since a few months (Oct 23 to be precise).
2x computing power & scanning rate and improved jack return detection algorithm to avoid/limit "hot notes" during fast repetitions.
According to the manufacturer, this improves the overvall precision in the p to mf range.

Also, worth mentionning - and here it is pure speculation - but they probably now embed sampled PianoTeq sounds.
New presets list features names such as "Grand K2", "U4 Upright" and we know for sure that they have worked with Modartt for the Steingraeber exclusive version (anyway, internal memory jumped from 1 to 4GB).

All the best
