Topic: Need info about - Mic output line

Hi,

I have been playing with Mic placement and type of mic lately.  Loving that aspect of Pianoteq.  But one thing that I don't quite understand is  the use of multiple output lines per mic.  Can anyone explain the usage of multiple output line per Mic?

1- Why is there several outputs for a single Mic?
2- How are those outputs mixed together?
3- Mainly, what is the purpose of it?

I looked into the manual (14.3.2. Mix table) but cannot figure out the use of multiple output line per Mic.

As you can tell, I am no sound engineer.

Thanks

Re: Need info about - Mic output line

Pianoteq gives you up to 5 channels as output for routing up to 5 mics. Normally, with a 2-channel DAC you only see the outputs 1 and 2 (normal stereo left and right) in Options/Devices. But if you use a multi-channel DAC, you will see the other outputs added.

One way to test that on a Mac if you have an external 2-channel USB device is to create an aggregate device in the Audio-MIDI configuration panel of MacOS with the internal DAC and the USB one. This way you see a 4 channel output in Options/Devices and the mics can be mixed and routed to any of the 4 outputs.

Merci!

That makes a lot of sense now that understand it's directly tied to the audio device channels available.

Thanks again!

Re: Need info about - Mic output line

I have two stereo systems.  I send 2 mics to one....and the other 2 mics to the other one.

Output 1 to Yamaha HS8 left
Output 2 to Yamaha HS8 right
Output 3 to Carvin PA
Output 4 to Carvin PA

I use a Focusrite 6i6 which has multiple outputs...this is required to do this.  Doesn't make a dramatic difference in sound but helps to split it up

Pianoteq 8 Standard-Chord AI - Android App (displays chords)-Kawai VPC1
Real Samick (Stencil) Parlor Grand (5'6")-Focusrite 6i6 2nd

Hi Zumadale,

I just realized that you can also do it via software on a Mac (out of the box) using the Audio midi setup.  I created an aggregated device using two different audio devices (2ch each).  When launching Pianoteq I now see that virtual device as 4ch.!

This is really cool!   Thx
