While on vacation in Germany, I had the opportunity to visit the famous Thomann store. The sheer number of instruments of all kinds is impressive. I spent some time in the pianos and keyboard section, and here are a few impressions from an amateur.
I tried out a good dozen grand pianos (Kawai, Yamaha, Steinway, Seiler, and Thomann). I don’t have the expertise to judge their respective quality, but the feel is amazing. The first impression is the loud volume, which is a bit overwhelming at first, but a soundproof room with about ten pianos allowed me to play freely. I love the sound diffusion of grand.

I’ve tried few upright pianos (I have one at home); Steinway, Bechstein and others but I don’t like that feeling of being confined with my back to the room, my nose pressed against the cabinet, and the sound too close. Playing on a grand is much more enjoyable.

I also tried a few digital pianos, including the new Kawai NV12, but I didn’t dare turn the volume up too high to test the soundboard. I mainly tried them with headphones (all the pianos were equipped with Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32-ohm headphones).

After two wonderful hours, however, I concluded that my personal Pianoteq setup with a standard PHA-4 keyboard mounted in a wooden cabinet Is very good...
Now I'm certain of it: Pianoteq is the best investment I've made in a long time

Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

Max Reger (1873-1916) was a prominent German composer, organist and conductor. He lived and worked for many years in Weiden and Munich, and as university music director and professor in Leipzig (Germany). He composed many famous organ works in the style of the late Romantic period and early modernism. Sadly, he died very young at the age of 43.
The chorale prelude ‘Ach bleib mit deiner Gnade’ (Opus 135a, No. 1) is a very personal and artfully crafted organ piece. Max Reger treats the melody by Melchior Vulpius (1570–1615) in a restrained style. The composition features the polyphonic voice leading typical of Reger. The imploring and consoling character of the sacred song is emphasised by the modulations and distinctive harmonies. The work is also used as a prelude to Hymn No. 144 in the hymn book of the New Apostolic Church.

Holzhey-Organ - Neresheim 1798: Organteq 2
J.

Binaural mix: For optimal sound, please use headphones.

Emanuel Gohle (1867-1937) was a German composer who helped shape the musical culture of the New Apostolic Church (NAC). He studied music and worked as a teacher at the Berlin Conservatoire.
The melody of the hymn “Herrlich, herrlich bauet Gott sein Werk” or “Glorious, glorious is the work of God” is composed in the tradition of revivalist hymns and was included in the New Apostolic Hymnal (New Apostolic Church Hymnal No. 344, New Apostolic Hymnal No. 280). The lyrics describe the workings and the building up of God’s work on earth. Musically, the piece is characterised by a catchy style typical of early 20th-century church music in this context. It is a hymn that was frequently used in church services.
The arrangement for violin and guitar duo is by J.

Dear Friends,

Bach Sinfonia No.11 in G minor – Again, in sharp contrast to the preceding and the following sinfonias, this is a charming, gentle pastoral siciliano in 3/8. Its main theme of 8 bars consists of a stepwise descending octave with a typical dotted rhythm in the steps that runs throughout the piece.
These elemrnts are emphasized in a wide transition passage that leads from the relative major (Bƅ), through A to D minor (16-31) exactly at the middle of the work. A sort of development leads back to the main theme in the tonic (65) with which the work ends. A tense passage (41- 48) exploits the subtle rhythmic syncopation of the transition passage (22-29). One should also note the two “organ points” on A (24-28) and on D (57-63) resolving on the tonic G at the end.
Enjoy your listening Bach from Italy

Carmelo
This video was recorded with these setting:
Played on Yamaha P125 piano stage, Tamara House. Video Recording Samsung galaxy A54.
VST: Bösendorfer VC 280 Pianoteq Stage 9
Editing: Wondershare Filmora
https://youtu.be/mhbAYIPYI90
