Here's a little something for Christmas. A bit of seasonal jollity, written 2 days ago and (re)mixed this very Christmas morning:

There's 3 christmas tunes woven into the piece (and many of the other melodic fragments are derived from these tunes as well), although I'm not sure if the first one (as played by the muted trumpets and the guitar) is known very well outside Flanders and The Netherlands - it might well be a local traditional, I'm not sure. It's called "Hoe Leit Dit Kindeke" and, if anyone's interested, there's plenty of conventional versions to be found on YouTube. The two other tunes are certainly very familiar.A very merry Christmas to all of you, and a happy music-soaked new year!

Enclosed is an mp3 of something I did about 15 years ago, via midi, on an ancient Roland JV-1080 hardware sample player -- definitely pre-Pianoteq. I apologize ahead of time for posting a file not made with Pianoteq, and will delete it after New Year's Day.

The sound is quite dated, compared to today's virtual samplers, but please remember this entire performance used less than 64MB (not GB) of sounds. I had just acquired the JV-1080 and made up this arrangement to exploit as many of its sounds, simultaneously.

Very nice improvisation.
What piano is it? Settings etc. It has an absolutely delightful tone especially in the bass.
