I have a Standard license (bought at v7 launch) with Steinway D, Petrof and Grotrian models.
Having tested quite a bit the v8 demo I'm also considering about buying the Steingraber.
The default "Steingraeber E-272" preset sounds amazing on any situation (personally I disable pedal noises and reverb, so sound engineers have a drier signal to work on mixing).Personally, I don't look for a specific piano sound or sound situation... instead I tend to look for a "allrounder" sound that works on many situations, a little classical here, some latin comping there, pop comping, some solo parts... and that Steingraeber E-272 is versatile as hell.
The licensed pianos I got so far:
Steinway D: is a good allrounder, 2 pianos for 1 license and nice presets to work on. Still trying to get a brighter low end, a little bit muffled on some latin comping, but just a little. Tried some FXP posted (with the morphing fever that come with v7 launch there are some decent presets posted) find some good ones, but not spot on for the allrounder sound I look for.
Petrof: is just decent. Also 2 pianos with 1 licens but no much love for the "Ant. Petrof 275", but the "Mistral Jazz recording" preset sounds gorgeous on studio monitors (but a little bit bright for my taste on headphones).
Grotrian: ... almost never used. Can´t find right balance between lower end, muffled and muddy.Best regards from Spain!!

I got the Steingraeber and U4 and I'm blown away by both of them. Didn't think that the silent notes of the demo would affect the impression that much, but when I finally bought it I feel I can really test it out. The U4 sounds amazing! Never thought felt presets would sound so good, I though it would be like adding a lowpass filter but when playing the felt presets I realize it's so much more than that!

As Key Fumbler said, I try to use U4.
I tested 10 minutes and got closer than my example shows (by using a different reverb from my daw and Ptq Standard U4 Tall).But in the example I have Ptq U4 Tall and only mint to 0.62 and velocity pulled down to 112. A lot can be done with Ptq but…Standard gives more to work with.

Wait. I'm confused. The 22 second demo that you posted doesn't sound as good as another preset you created using an external reverb? Are you going to post another clip with the sound that you like?

He talked about what you can do with Stage alone. Here is the second version with reverb from my daw and some other stuff you can’t use only with Stage as it is ( meaning only Stage and what Stage has).
I should spend more time on this and get it a little better, 3 days, but have other things going on right now. It was only my try to help chartsengrafs. I love to experiment, as people probably noticed in the sub-forum.

]]>I cant currently motivate buying the standard version but I think Stage will suffice.
Might also be the generous use of the sustain pedal that sort of amplifies the imperfections.

Start with the upright model probably.
If using Stage I would get busy with the condition slider and add and adjust multiple EQs in U4.
I will add seeing as this is the Stage version of Ptq we're talking about then I would listen to all the U4 presets to find one to match closest to your track start with, then go from there.
