Hi, I suggest you to try with a free sound piano, for exemple you can find some little but décents samples in Independence free, Sampletank CS4 and Numa player.
Evidently the sound is far to Pianoteq but for beginning with vsti is a step and you can save some money for buy the Stage or Standard version of Pianoteq.

My child is starting to learn to play piano and his keyboard have midi usb.
I think adding pianoteq in the line would make his experience more enjoyable.
The available budget is around 70 euro/$ .
