I was wondering what would be need to be able to create a tool, a incredible advanced automatic tool, that would allow pianoteq to analyze a clean piano record and find out what settings adjust parameters is required to get as close as possible to the piano sound used in the recording.

That would be an ultimate tool. And such task would be incredible complex and difficult to create & refine.

I'm glad you like it. The biggest factor that softened the tone is the adjustment of hammer hardness. Other parts have been fine-tuned in many parts as I feel.

I'm switching beetween pianoteq, Native Instruments and VSL (upright and 280vc) ... the song you posted is very beautiful BUT the first piano that comes to my mind is NI's noire (sorry=) - not because it's "same same" but they have that effect where you can turn a special subwoofer on which gives a realistic and full sound.

where did you do the adjustments to implement the soft pedal? i still think it needs the pedal to be pressed

Please refer to the file I uploaded on FXP Corner. I've tried making it so that you can just play it without pressing the soft pedal, but I don't know how you'll feel. It tried out with NY Steinway. When I saw the video, I think I heard a little sound effect.

one preset that got relatively close was the steinway B gentle, but the higher notes all sound much louder than the bass/chord notes.

You won't get the consistent soft dynamics playing with a synth action. it's much harder attack because you can achieve maximum velocity easily.

The glass is half empty:
If I play on my synth action keyboard the Steinway pianos vs playing on the graded hammer action (bottom of the range Casio model, nothing fancy) then they may as well be a completely different instruments. No velocity curves can solve this.

The glass half full versionl:
It can be used to produce different tonal qualities without even loading up different piano models together - a tonal free lunch!

it is most certainly a Steinway (D or B?), but it sounds very soft - much softer than any of the presets i tried.
(note that he is having the left damper pedal pushed down all the time)

one preset that got relatively close was the steinway B gentle, but the higher notes all sound much louder than the bass/chord notes.
