Sure, things are gonna look weird in that universe, but they will be consistent and thus "make sense". If you write a musical piece that is built on the standard theory, yet breaks it on many ocassions, it will sound hard to digest. If on the other hand you create a piece that is built on a new set of rules, it can sound simple and inviting even though it defies standard theory.

Could not agree more, but of course most of the possible self-consistent frameworks are not convincing to many. C'est la vie!
