Fab ! - similar vintage - Hoping you might stick around some.

Gotta say, when I saw the Sphere details, I knew my old brain had really met the future. Agree 'game changing' is a well deserved tag. The ability to alter so much, realistically in post is phenomenal.

Also forgot to mention your Apollo gear before - it seems a great choice too - such a fine kit!

I do know Modartt is super busy atm - the best systems can mess something up - they're usually on point - but I'm pretty sure you should be taken care of soon.

I was looking at a newish Austrian Audio OC818 pair when I came across the Townsend L22 recently.

Sometimes these things just seem like they should be better known. Great tech! You will undoubtedly enjoy them greatly.

Thanks very much for helping out Qexl. It's a silly issue born out of my enthusiasm and impulsiveness. I bought the Studio version 10 days ago or so. and got 3 packages. (Steinway B, Bluethner, and Electric). Then I bought the Steinway D and the next day upgraded to Pro forgetting I could have added the D for free as the 4th package. I wrote them about maybe getting a refund for the D and then again to say I'd be happy to make the Bechstein the 4th but they have it in my account that the D came with Pro by mistake with no way of downloading a 4th package. It's got to be the simplest problem they will be solving this year! And again, the Sphere system is game changing. I came from a singer songwriter scene in the 70s-80s and had experiences singing and playing with the great Neumann etc mikes and I'm telling you these Sphere models hold up incredibly well. In fact the spheres sound quite good "dry" but I never really use them that way except to track with the option of changing the mic afterward.

I do know Modartt is super busy atm - the best systems can mess something up - they're usually on point - but I'm pretty sure you should be taken care of soon.

Good eye. yes they are spheres which I use with an Apollo based recording system. The software mic models are fantastic. UA proved to me that modeling can be extremely accurate which led me to look into pianoteq.

I've been using the Arturia Keylab MK2 88 with Pianoteq and I think it's a great combo. A lot of folks find the action stiff on this keyboard, and I sometimes find it that way, but adjusting the velocity curve appropriately fixes that for me. Pianoteq has such a rich and intuitive way to adjust this and save it globally. I wish other virtual instruments worked as well.

I had been using a number of nice sampled pianos on iPad OS (Ravencroft, etc.) and thought they were quite nice. However when I tried using the Pianoteq demo on an old mac laptop I was sold immediately. I bought a new mac laptop and really there's no going back to the iPad, although I still use it for sheet music (forScore). The richness of Pianoteq was instantly clear--the way all the strings resonate appropriately and things sound so right. The pedaling is great (half-pedaling etc.) I love the Condition slider--how you can so easily experiment with that and so many other parameters. Plus they have so many modeled instruments (and other instruments) to play with and morph and layer.  Back to the Keylab--I think Pianoteq allows it to really shine as a controller.

PIanoteq is fantastic - I use it on my clavinova 785, bypassing the built-in pianos. Compared to a fine grand, those controller keyboards might yield the pianoteq sound, but lack the nuance/point-of-touch of a fine grand.  My favorite is the Steingraeber with 'Mozart rail'.

Couldn't agree more. No controller can match the action of a well "tuned" grand. If I needed to record Pianoteq I might look into the hybrid solution. But I've gone all in with excellent mics and a UA Apollo based recording system that can't be beat for recording acoustically. (I just made an avatar with my set up.)

@peterhalperin - SInce you appreciate the action on your B, have you considered adding a laser key-reading strip and a 'stop bar'?  Some shops set up Steinways and other pianos going out the door with these.  I added the QRS PnoScan and their Stop Bar to my piano.  This way, you get your excellent action, unaltered, and you can play analog, electronic, or both (depending upon if you leave the Stop Bar engaged or disengaged).

Thanks David- I am intrigued and will look into this, but my situation is needing a portable keyboard for playing out when a suitable piano is not available. I am happy having my B all acoustic in my studio but one never knows....Peter

Yes, David's setup with his Steinway is quite something. Could be deeply satisfying for your classical repertoire. (Should say, check David's previous posts for threads where it's discussed in detail if it sparks your imagination).

Agree, the way the engine works so seamlessly - I feel like I've watched software pianos go from 8 bit horrors to a patchy selection of various strange techs, all with big holes in some aspect or other. Pianoteq plays and sounds like Modartt began with the correct premise and kept working primarily on various fundamental realities leading to what it is today.
