really beautiful interpretation of this tune.  it is one of the great American folk melodies.  have you ever heard Keith Jarrett's version of it?  it's not on YT but there are vids of people playing transcriptions of it, like this one

In my opinion, Claire Pasquier's version lacks the poetic quality of Jarrett's interpretation. It is too fast, too "expressive," and with too much pedal at crucial moments.

What also bothers me is measure 48, one of the most beautiful in the original, but obviously wrong in Douglas Gould's transcription. I really wonder how it is that so many follow that transcription blindly.

Fortunately, there are other transcriptions, such as the one below. By the way, there now appears to be an officially approved transcription (Scott Music), which I just ordered.
