It is too fast, too &quot;expressive,&quot; and with too much pedal at crucial moments.</p><p>What also bothers me is measure 48, one of the most beautiful in the original, but obviously wrong in Douglas Gould&#039;s transcription. I really wonder how it is that so many follow that transcription blindly.</p><p>Fortunately, there are other transcriptions, such as the one below. Like many folk songs, it is impossible to determine exactly when the song was composed, In any case, by the end of the 19th century, &quot;Shenandoah&quot; had achieved widespread popularity,</p><p>I have heard many versions of this song, some fast, some slow.
