Yes, it is so well done, your version, because it is not going too far from the theme, melody. Some people can’t listen to jazz because it is just disconnected patterns to them. A good improviser keep the listener engaged in the variations. And you do that. It’s nice to follow your playing, I like it.I’s a true example of flawless expression of feelings through musical art!

thank you so much for these very gracious comments. i really appreciate it. i'm glad you also liked this very sentimental song. and i agree with what you say about sometimes players getting too far away from the melody and not making the effort to engage their listeners, although to be honest i'm as guilty of that as anyone. but i think the melody is important and shouldn't be lost if possible. can't say i'm always successful though ...
