I listened to the acoustic version first, and wondered whether I'd be disappointed with the Pianoteq version, but no, it's very different but equally satisfying, I think. As Stig rightly says, the main difference is with the room acoustics. Pianoteq still struggles (IMO) to get a really good 'concert hall' sound, and there's not as much 'depth' as you get with the acoustic piano, but I'm confident that Modartt will continue to get ever closer!

Hi again k c Paul Li,

Not disappointing result at all, this version. Very satisfying result. I had two windows open and listened 10 seconds, one at a time, throughout the piece.
I think the difference is the acoustics in the room of the live concert, we can’t create it (with reflections from walls, and audience etc.) But listening only to Ptq version it is good, many pople can think it’s a Grand….

It would be very interesting if someone dared to play a concert like this with Ptq. Maybe it cuts through the orchestra just right No one know that before trying

I read that ”In the third movement, the piano brings out the melody taken from the "Ballad of the Yellow Rivers", originally a mellow number sung by female chorus”. So, I had to listen to Yellow River Cantata from which the piano concert is ”made”. Interesting, although I don’t understand a word what they are saying.

Thank you k c Paul Li for comparing these two.

Best wishes,

Stig

Pianoteqenthusiast, Organteqenthusiast, Harpteqenthusiast, Harpsichordteqenthusiast and experimenter

https://youtu.be/q3ppz7g_sAY

I had recorded this concerto using Pianoteq before, with a disappointing result.
I thought that Pianoteq isn't suitable for such a powerful concerto.
Yesterday, I remember this recording, take the old midi file out,
split the notes into different tracks, using different pianos.
Just take me two days' work, and get a more satisfying result.
I also have this recording of my performance in the concert hall.
It may be a good idea to put both recordings, the Pianoteq one and the acoustic one here.
Comparing them will be very interesting.

The Pianoteq Version
https://youtu.be/16sO7wT8rFc

The Concert Hall Version
https://youtu.be/VzxLIp_FjWU
