Thank you all for your responses. I have been taking piano lessons that provide some material as midi files and have become used to practicing with them using the Pianoteq midi player. In the mean time I've been reviving my old hardware synths since my new controller can effectively handle 8 midi zones. When Pianoteq is configured for "any" channel, it is not happy seeing all those other channels.

From what I am hearing the solution is to either get an editor or a dedicated midi file player. Both of which are great ideas. Thanks again.

So if your controller is configured to transmit on MIDI channel 5, the Pianoteq MIDI recorder will record and play back the information it recorded, on MIDI channel 5.

If you set Pianoteq's Options-->MIDI-->Notes Channel to "Any," Pianoteq will respond to and produce audio for MIDI events (played live or recorded into a .mid file) regardless of MIDI channel, or rather, on any MIDI channel.

However, if these comments seem irrelevant, it may not be quite clear exactly what you are trying to achieve, and why.

In my version (7.5.2) the playback and the actual playing use the same setting (options -> midi -> left bottom corner).
I have run some tests and Pianoteq saved the same channel I used on my controller. And then only played back the channel chosen in options, so for e.g. if I play in channel 3, PT records on channel 3, and I must select channel 3 (or 'any') to playback.
Other option is to edit the midi file in order to set the proper channel. May be you want to edit your files with a MIDI editor? If you don't want to install one you have online options like this one: https://signal.vercel.app/edit
