It's been a while since I used Pianoteq/Organteq in a recording. I've gone back and cleaned up an old recording of "Somewhere in My Memory" from Home Alone, adding piano and harp from Pianoteq 8, as well as high quality strings, boys choir, and sleighbells samples. I have yet to post the updated video to YouTube, but the audio is now available on Soundcloud at the link below. I hope you enjoy!

Yes, it's a lot of time and effort...but much fun at that! The arrangement is written for 8 trumpets. 2 mellophones (a marching band French Horn), and 4 flugelhorns. I adapted the full original MIDI score, and I tried to include numerous antiphonal (side-to-side) effects, as the parts are written to be played via either the left or right channel. (I need to tweak the panning in the recording to make the antiphonal stuff more apparent! I wrote the arrangement back in November/December over the course of ~8-10 hours.

The recording is spliced together from over 1200 takes (so far!). I tend to mess up a lot! Let's just say the recording process has been a long one as well!

And then, because the recordings are still not as good as I want them to be, nearly as much time goes into editing the recordings as it takes to record them in the first place.

So yes, it's a long process. But, to me, certainly worth it in the end!

Thanks for checking my YouTube channel, budo! The Hook soundtrack is definitely underrated in my book.

Unfortunately, recordings don't record themselves, and I've been busy the last couple of months! I have a recording in progress to share with the community, though...so you can hear how things come together. Since this is an Organteq forum, the link is cued up to the entrance of the organ in my arrangement...this is Brahms' Academic Festival Overture!

excellent contributions! really enjoyed the Thanksgiving hymn. also was not expecting to see a performance of the soundtrack of Hook, haven't thought about that movie in years. but John Williams wrote a lot more cool stuff than just Star Wars and Close Encounters ...

Thanks, budo! (and Pianoteqenthusiast, too!). It's a pleasure having great "synthetic" instruments to play with. I wasn't sure if I could get the ET piece to sound like it did in my head...but it did, maybe even better...a pleasant surprise!

I appreciate the encouragement and will post more small batches in the future!

Enjoyed your playing much. Really great work. Interested first in the one with trumpet and Organteq because I have experimented with other instruments together with Orgtq too. And when I was young, 18, I played the trumpet and 3 years baritone with a youth orchestra, we made a small record, Hooteanny ( and the orchestra, 62 years old, still exists with 175 members!) I like trumpet music and it's not often one can hear it nowdays. Thank you for sharing your talent. I’m waiting for more It’s an enriching experience for me to hear you playing trumpet. I remember my youth.

Probably like many of you, I had been using sampled piano and organ sounds until I stumbled upon Pianoteq and Organteq. I've been recording trumpet pieces with or without accompaniment for several years, but Pianoteq/Organteq have really upgraded the quality of my recordings, and challenged me to do the same with my playing.

I use NY Steinway D Classical for my piano recordings, and a custom setting for Organteq on my organ recordings. I had a lot of fun putting these together, and I hope you enjoy!
