I use the XS8 which I believe has the same keyboard.

I like it because it's even from key to key, in physical feel and midi response, and also because it's physically quiet.
I also find that it has a solid feel, not alot of wiggling from side to side. So far I've found it very reliable.

As for the Yamaha synth itself, the sounds are very good, but good luck trying to make sense of using them! especially if you don't use Cubase or a PC. The manual I've got is opaque to the point of being useless and even the techs at Yamaha admit it. The available DVD tutorials likewise.

Point is, you might be just as happy and save some money getting an older yamaha with the same keybed.

The one drawback is that with single note repeats it's a little sluggish.

But you could do what I do: Split into zones with two instances of PTQ that overlap a pitch range. You'll find all kinds of new figures and patterns that are lightning fast, easy as can be, and that would otherwise tie your fingers up in knots.

Just one more innovation made possible by this fantastic instrument.

I tried Roland and Korg 88 note boards , including the V-Piano, and found them mushy at the bottom and/or loose and noisy.

(BTW It took me 6 months and about 1000 miles to find a store that stocked one, and it took about 20 seconds playing the V-piano to realize that the sound fell far short of Pianoteq.)

I've also owned several Fatar keyboards which I grew to distrust. they were prone to breakdowns, and costly time consuming repairs. And they were really noisy.

So I consider the Yamaha the best one out there for me, at present.

Hope that helps

Ron
