Not directly but because I didn't check the full system:
somehow the "Options / Devices / Active MIDI inputs:" become unchecked...

I didn't open the devices, I didn't open the options, just got unchecked...

All is good for me now, there is no problem with Pianoteq or Linux, I'm sorry I stir up such a storm.

I'm confident it is something harmless. I would check some essentials first. When your MIDI device is connected via USB - are the common alsa kernel-modules ("drivers") loaded?

lsmod | grep usb
lsusb

In Pianoteq options
--> Audio device type: ALSA
--> Active MIDI Inputs --> select *only* your connected MIDI device
--> Watch the MIDI monitor
--> Starting Pianoteq from the CLI and watch the messages

... and so on.

Thanks for your informations, Antonio. When you get it to work, I probably test Sid in the next weeks. Normally I'm running (Debian) Buster with Pianoteq, but it is indeed tempting to run something borderline like a "rolling release" with Sid ...

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll try investigating more later today, starting with these. I would like to have some comment or fix from support before starting.
What made me suspicious of 7.2.0 is that 6.7.3 works fine...
(also made a java program to read and display MIDI messages - also fine)

I re-unzip the 7.2.0 just in case there was an undetected disk failure - no luck.

I'll report back after all that.

BTW (personal comment) it's impossible to enjoy v6 after using v7...!

If you have installed the meta-package linux-image-amd64, then per default always the last two kernels should be present in your system. With the bootloader grub-pc you can switch between them.

I'll see if I can add a note to the support ticket I created.

edit: I don't think I have a ticket number - If support is monitoring this: it's was not the kernel update.

Just because is one thing that I changed yesterday.
If it was not clear this only started yesterday, it was working fine until Debian give me this update - I like to live on the edge

my 7.2.0 stopped receiving MIDI messages I think it might be related to the update to new Linux kernel:

so maybe wait on that update if you are using Debian sid or something similar that gets you the new Kernel...
