Yes, I've been doing exactly this with a couple of earlier versions.  Each version has its own directory, own settings and own presets.  Anything you change in one version will be ignored by the other version.  I've had no problems working this way.

At the moment the performance on my fanless system seems to be sufficient for the NY Steinway. I disabled the automatic chord detection and disabling delay/reverb is another option. Last ressort would be to reduce polyphony 64 to 48. But I'll try to avoid the last, since I noticed, that 64 sounds better than 48 (!). This surprised me, as I normally play much less notes at the same time.

I enjoy the new Pianoteq 7 very much, hopefully I don't need the "fallback".

I'm pretty sure you can find archives of earlier versions or contact support. They fixed me right up.

How did you install P7? I just downloaded the file and P6 wasn't removed from my computer, so I can start both independently if I want.

there was no problem installing Pianoteq 7 at all. My former v6.7.3 is per default in a separate directory than v7.0.1 (see my commands).

For sure I could start the older release, but I don't want to try that blindly without knowing the consequences.

Have you tried switching between P6 and P7 under Linux? No settings interactions to worry about?

eventually my slow netbook has reached its limits with the new modelling in Pianoteq 7. Is it possible to temporarily "fallback" to the last v6.7.3 without corrupting the new Pianoteq 7 installation?

After the upgrade I'm starting Pianoteq as usual with ...

$ ./Pianoteq\ 7/x86-64bit/Pianoteq\ 7
... and found a new preference file:
~/.config/Modartt/Pianoteq70.prefs

Would it be possible to just start the former release alternatively with ...

$ ./Pianoteq\ 6/amd64/Pianoteq\ 6
... which seems to have its own default prefs found here?:
~/.config/Modartt/Pianoteq67.prefs

Any hassle to be expected?
