Actually, "mic placement" would be more appropriate for describing the action of clicking on the small mic icon right to the output pull-down menu. The menu itself contains the four output modes that are available: mono, stereo, sound recording (the one we recommend for recording), and binaural.

Well... The name is not that important, I think. The first time I saw the button I just clicked on it and watched what happened... Played around with the mics and buttons and sliders... And found you could do everything one would do to set up an environment for sound recording in a real studio. So I was quite happy with "Sound Recording".

I agree that "Mic Placement" (or something similar) would be _better_, though I perfectly understood the meaning of "Sound Recording" in the first place. (Of course, I'm a native American-English speaker -- but I _do_ understand how those people who are _not_ could become easily confused by the terminology. ;^)

Well, we called that feature "sound recording" because it is related to the things you want to do during sound recording: choosing how many mics you are going to use, their placement around the piano, their respective volume and delay... that is, all the tools you need for preparing your recording session, just before exporting your audio file. Doesn’t that make sense?

Okay thanks guys, now I get it. Another reason why I was confused is because Pianoteq does have the "export wav" function, which creates and records an audio file out of a midi file (an audio file that does not exist until Pianoteq creates it and records it). Maybe the difference is that for real-time recording of a performance, there would be additional software requirements that are not currently part of the program.

I also agree that it's a little confusing calling that function "Sound Recording".

Modartt, what do you say about renaming it simply to "Microphone Room", or "Microphone Placement"?

"Microphone Placement" would currently be more appropriate, since we cannot adjust the parameters related to the room (dimensions, wall material, position of piano in the room...)

Opinions?

It means vitual sound recording of the sound created by the piano model. And to be more precise, nothing is recorded at all but the virtual sound is caught by virtual microphones you can place in a virtual room and brought outside pianoteq.
I wish we could place additional sound sources from inputs in this virtual room... But it's even a great feature as it is.
