I'm resurrecting this thread after finding another link-site that has some of these videos. (Apparently you can embed the videos in another site, but not download them.) Here's the "Adia" video. I'm posting it for the piano sound.

http://www.wittysparks.com/video/3389380867/

Nice treble for rock. Often a little hard to judge what's contributing to the sound. She uses both the soft pedal and the sus pedal quite a bit--in other videos, I've seen her hit both big chords and single notes really hard in the treble using both pedals to keep the sound loud but not too metallic.

The version of "Angel" on this site, (yes, again...) uses the same piano and mic set up. The versions of the songs with the band are much weaker, piano-wise.

I'm posting this for the piano sound, but I like this "Adia" much better than others I've heard--she's really at her best solo like this. The acoustic guitar version of "Building a Mystery" on this site is also good. Didn't care for the song until I heard this version.

Jake,
You have to install iTunes in order to get to that link. It's free. Your computer will not *necessarily* blow up if you do. ;^) (if it does, I think it will be sheer coincidence)
Regarding "Dirty Little Secret", all I can hear in iTunes is a short preview, and it does not include the beginning, so I don't know what happens during the intro.

Re: the dryness, I don't really know for sure. There is a clarity in the sampled C7 which is lacking in Pianoteq. I think the fidelity of the sampled piano is extremely good, and I could be suffering from ever increasing expectations. It sounds a fair bit clearer and brighter than any Elton piano I heard whilst quickly flicking through many songs in iTunes, too. (that might be partly due to the AAC compression, though I kind of doubt that it would have a big effect - I do think the fidelity in iTunes is very good)

Greg.

If it starts with her welcoming the viewer to an AOL Sessions thing, it's probably the same recording of Dirty Little Secret (I can't see the video at the itunes location...)

It's the same piano as on Adia, but played differently. She uses a wider range of touch in Adia, really pounding the piano at times. (One soft passage with the pedal down actually doesn't work so well.) Fewer lossy format problems on the Adia video, too. Too bad that aol restricts the site. And one can't purchase or download the videos, as far as I can tell.

Has anyone from outside the US been able to reach the site?

I, too, hear the comparatively dry sound of the fxp. But is it dry, in the sense of needing more room? (I'm still experimenting, and I hope other people will take a hand at revisions or similar sounds.)

About the eq'ing. I've learned two things in working on this fxp--1. How to use the eq to bring in upper freqs and to cut them fast by raising the Q-factor. 2. How to use the soundboard's Cut-off freq to further control the rate of the cut-off. Raising the Cut-off means that higher, less prominent freqs must first get cut, so it takes a little longer for the Q-factor slope to be noticeable---in other words, the Cut-off freq, if you raise high freqs in the EQ pane that could make the sound too bright if held too long into the decay, acts almost like a delay for the Q-factor, making it seem less abrupt. Lets you get in the high freqs and cut them fast, so they register mainly in the attack, but not too fast. Enormous amount of control available in the way these two parameters can be made to interact with small tugs on the sliders.

Of course, this situation is true for all of the presets--it's just much more noticeable if you raise high freqs to unnatural amplitudes in the EQ pane to brighten the attack.

Jake: I found ONE "AOL Sessions" recording of S.M in iTunes ("Dirty Little Secret"):
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt...p;s=143460

I assume this is identical to the copy on AOL:
http://music.aol.com/video/sarah-mclach...an/1139651

Is this the sound you want us to hear? In any case, I like it a lot. The Yamaha generally seems to have a dark sound, yet with a metallic sheen. I see that you have uploaded an FXP - if you've managed to reproduce this sound that will be most impressive.
EDIT: I've tried the FXP now - not bad at all. I still prefer my sampled C7 by a fair margin though - Pianoteq sounds dry in comparison, despite the fact that your EQ does impart a metallic quality which is similar to the recording. (assuming the recording has a similar sound to "Adia")

Greg.
