I use a Steinberg UR22 mkII, but have gotten nearly as low latency just with the ASIO4all driver as well. The external audio card has some other benefits: Solid connections for plugs to the keyboard (in this case, DIN plugs to my QRS PNOscnII laser MIDI strip that I installed in my piano, solid 1/4" phono connections to the speakers, and analog knobs to turn to adjust volume.

So what about latency when playing? Do you need an ASIO USB thing or is ASIO for all good enough?

I also use Pianoteq on a Surface Pro (a Surface Pro 3 in my case). Works fine and I didn't even have to tweak any Windows settings. If you're using it for performance you need to remember to set the hard disk to never sleep when the tablet is plugged in.

As a backup, I use a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, which is a lot more powerful but I don't actually notice any difference in Pianoteq performance. I run Pianoteq standalone, rather than in a DAW via VST.

In general, I find the Surface tablets a lot more flaky than laptops, and I generally hate my Surface and regret buying it. But it works fine as a Pianoteq host. Laptops are thin and light enough these days that I wouldn't bother with a tablet; it doesn't save much weight and the tablet functions aren't all that useful in Windows. For a tablet I prefer an iPad. ;-)

Well …. turns out I am able to move some things around and can keep my VSTs on my desktop and just use it.

No purchase necessary for VSTs …

That is usually he best option (LOL …)

I am going to purchase a tablet which I can set on my music stand which is attached to my MP11SE. I will use it to run Pianoteq so I need enough computer power to do that. I need a way to send midi signals into it and get audio out of it. I also need it to be a touch screen. Having an optional keyboard (for typing input) for it would be nice, also. The ones advertised usually have a myriad of options which drive me crazy with indecision.

Could someone try to narrow down my focus to the necessities ?

Or better yet, just tell me which one to get.

Budget you ask ??? Less than $1000.

Thanks
