Great performance - she plays like Valentina.  Also my own playing has gained a higher tier - in my own thinking.  I now play more like I do than I ever did ... ;p). I make more facial grimises when I play than Anna.  I play like I do now more than she does.

Thank you all, I really enjoy this competition - great format and yes, definitely noticed much in the way of exceptionally confident and gracious performances by so many. So good to see/hear. Future is in good hands it seems, in classical music.

I agree, we are very lucky to be able to witness these new generations of incredibly talented musicians.
If you like the cello, I would also recommand watching Anastasia Kobekina who won third prize in TCH16.
The first note she hit in her first round I was instantly struck by her natural confidence and then blown away by her whole performance.
She plays Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata magnificently in her second round.

It's used by Kantorow in the two first rounds of the competition linked by scherbakov.al in the first post. For the concerto round he used a Steinway...

Andrei Gugnin was also one of my favourites since he was already one of the best contestants in 2015 in my opinion.
I loved every note he played in his two rounds (especially his Beethoven Waldstein Sonata in the first round).

As a fellow Frenchman I'm also really happy Alexandre Kantorow won the first prize and grand prix, I loved his Stravinsky Firebird Suite.

Overall I thought most piano contestants were playing at a higher level of musicality than in the previous competition in 2015.
But, that said, nothing has topped for me the life defining moment that was the discovery of Lucas Debargue in TCH15.
So even though I really love Daniil Trifonov, my personnal favourite will remain Lucas Debargue, probably for a long time.
