This is common and does not give a problem. I, for example, use 128 samples for 96KHz, resulting in an estimated latency of 1.3 ms.

It is worth the latency as small as possible. On my old PC, it works well with 128 samples and 44100 Hz. Latenes over 10ms may be acceptable with headphones. But if the speakers are 2 m away, a latency of about 6 ms is added. Then you feel it clearly.

Never paid too much attention to this, but recently I tried changing Audio Buffer Size from 512 (the default value, I think) to 256 samples when I realized that estimated latency dropped to 5 msec. I am right in assuming that the number given (in the Options/Devices panel) is in fact just an estimation?
I can't say I noticed a great difference, but at least I didn't start getting noises or sound break up on either of my two mac minis (i7 and i5 based)
I am curious to see what other users chose?? Are there any disadvantages in lowering this number (granted that the computer can handle it and no artefacts are generated)?
