The 1899 Bechstein is superb. For comparison
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpqrynlohR4
is from memory an 1895 but the instruments didn't change a lot in this decade.

Best wishes

David P

I don't believe that I have ever downloaded it or listened to it before...what a "wirey"-sounding instrument. At times and with higher velocities in the lower register it's almost harpsichord-like (maybe its bass strings have loose windings that need replacing?). How very different from its slightly-younger cousin the 1899 C. Bechstein!

And very different than my 1885 upright, though mine has a newer action and newer hammers and strings - it's curious for a non-piano-tuner such as me to try to figure out what elements of a piano's sound are from the strings versus the hammers versus the harp versus the case, etc.

Yes, the Bechstein 1896 (not confuse with the 1899), also called rocking piano years ago, it's from the legacy pack now.

It's considered too old and too poor for the actual high standarts of pianoteq latest version. That's why they gave it in aquite discreet position in legacy and with just one preset.

If I remamber well about one comment of Modartt, this rocking Bechstein was not very well captured (recorded), from the real model piano, to allow a full refurbishing to bring it the the new quality standarts of pianoteq. Well, something like that...

There was a instrument even lower grade, a mix of piano and saxophone, not present even in the legacy pack today.
