Only adding, in case others find helpful, if you're hearing standalone as better, check your DAW's audio preferences. Some improvement may be a click away inside the DAW preferences - sample rates, buffer size mismatch etc.

If the sound pressue levels are not actually the same the perception of tonality will be markedly different. Read about the human hearing curve of equal loudness:

That will depend entirely on the quality of the IR files and the way you set the reverb and delay settings - coupled to the microphone positioning (if in Standard or Pro versions).

In Reaper it is easy to just add any convolution or algo reverbs to the plugin so I would do it that way. Reaper won't gobble up your CPU or memory resources and opens as fast as the standalone Pianoteq so...

Yes, or if you have the Standard or Pro version of Pianoteq you can import IR files to standalone.
