That's sweet sounding! Lots of character even though a bit boxy still. I guess it's the wooden cover that can't be removed.

You can already get pretty close to a similar sound, by reducing hammer hardness (i.e. piano 0.20, mezzo 0.45, forte 0.70), using Celeste pedal all the time (adds felt between hammer and strings), use the "Soft" timbral EQ preset (NOT the Equ3, but you can certainly do that post fast too - try the Vintage preset), increasing hammer, key release and sustain pedal noise, moving the mics around (provided you're on Standard/Pro) to get that close mic perspective, and then reducing the Dynamics slider to a low value (<20 dB). Can also use the "Dry room" reverb preset, with something like room size set to 25 m, tone to a negative value to make it a bit darker (something like -0.50), duration 0.50, mix to taste (I set mine to +12 dB).

Oh yeah, and use U4 model.

Thanks EvilDragon! I'd love to check this out if......... I had the U4 and a Standard or Pro version of Pianoteq :'D still stuck with Stage and Bluethner which in my opinion is absolutely enough if only a beautiful and rich grand piano sound is needed. So I might have to take the step some time.

Artists like Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds, Luchs and a few more are known for that sound. I recommend to check them out!

Either NI's Una Corda: www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keys/una-corda.
I have this and it is very good, although not as gentle on the CPU as Pianoteq.

More recently, Modartt's Steingraeber has an una corda pedal that gets very close.

I recently stumbled across the free Spitfire Audio Labs Soft Piano

And I must say even if it has close to zero dynamic it sounds beautiful! And man for being free it is amazing!
It adds so much warmth, heart or authenticity to the piano sound.

If Pianoteq brought out a piano with a similar sound. Maybe another upright piano but without the piano cover, very close stereo micing options, felt and other material options to put between hammer and string and some extra noise (finger on key tapping, chair squeaking, pink noise etc) it would be so lovely!
I feel like technically it's absolutely possible with all the progress that Pianoteq made over the years.
