Nope, it's the other way round. If your Linux installation has no support for 32 bit binaries, then only the 64 bit version will execute, so it actually works as expected.

I decided to try Pianoteq on Ubuntu and I've found that it will launch from the amd64 directory, but not the i386 directory.

I read that the amd64 is the 32bit version and i386 is 64bit. Is this correct?

The pdf that came with the download only mentions windows and mac osx.
