Since the release of the model B, I only played on it. I think it would be appropriate for the degradation to follow what wooden pianos do as their natural progression.
The random factor could apply to which notes and by how much the parameters drift, some recovering with humidity changes, others progressing from bad to worst.
It might be nice if the degradation happened at a rate similar to that of wood pianos, i.e. as a function of time for some things, as a function of played hours for others.

Not that subtleties are relevant to MY level of playing

Yeah, they're random, otherwise there wouldn't be a "random seed" parameter. Now, what exactly is randomized is up to Modartt's discretion - I don't know if it follows deterioration exactly as it happens on a real piano. I guess it would make sense to do so...

All I know is that I always set Condition slider somewhere between 0.30 and 0.60 as I find it makes everything sound livelier and more vibrant.

Could you clarify, ED? Obviously one cannot expect an out-of-condition piano to sound "great", but are you actually saying that the degradation that this control introduces operates randomly over its parameters? That is, degradations are arbitrary, rather than following what happens in real pianos when they go progressively out of condition over time (eg tuning first... hammer felt much later...)?

That's expected for the "Condition" slider. It introduces random variances in the model. Not all positions of "Condition" slider are going to sound great. You can change random seed and see what you get (right click the slider).

Here is a small midi file, I have the flanger sensation when I play E and D chords.
The preset is the original Model B player, for example,

I also hear a flanging effect but it looks quite natural to my taste. It is because of a slightly detune of the unison strings, as far as I can understand it. I think it is the most present on the bass notes with a double strings. Since the pitch is slightly different the phases of each string do some kind of cancellation of each other vibrations.

Hello,

On the new model B, when I play some chords including bass notes, I hear something in the vibration that I can describe as a "flanger" effect.

I have not the occasion to play often on a grand piano, only in my teacher's house, every 2 weeks.

I can't say if I like that or not.
Is that sensation often present on grand pianos?
