I had very similar issues with a cheap cable I got off ebay. Bought another one at a local music store for under $AU20. Looked almost identical to the ebay one yet it works fine with no perceptible latency.

Even without a note being played, if I press the sustain pedal, I get a very loud note/s. Looking at the midi values, it's returning Note 64 (not Controller). The soft pedal returns noth note and controller 67.

I did buy a cheapon USB to midi cable though. Is this likely to be the issue?
